Ryan C. Smith is an economics researcher specializing in the international oil industry, global finance, supply chains, and the modern Middle East.  He has a PhD in Economic & Social History from the University of Glasgow, Scotland. 


Ryan is the author of The Real Oil Shock: How Oil Transformed Money, Debt, and Finance, a book on how the 1970s oil shocks helped create modern finance.  He is currently living in San Francisco, California.
